Ratcliffe Farm – A mixed Working Farm Set in the Devon Countryside
Ratcliffe Farm is very much a working farm in the beautiful countryside of Mid Devon. Bought in 1963 our farm has now trebled in size to 300 acres, our main enterprises are wheat, barley, oats, and oil seed rape. We also have two flocks of sheep, lambing 100 ewes in November and 450 in March. Our two working dogs Moss and Fin help keep the sheep in order.
My husband's family bought the farm in 1963 and in the 1970's and 80's his mother provided Bed and Breakfast for guests. In 2002 we converted half of our huge farmhouse to a self-catering holiday cottage. The thatched farmhouse is built of local materials "cob" on a foundation of stone under a thatched roof. All the thatch on the roof is "wheat reed" grown by us on our farm.
We are so lucky to live in such pretty and peaceful surroundings, and hope when you come and stay here you will be able to experience the quiet country lanes, the fresh air, starry nights and the stunning surrounding views. If you have an interest in agriculture please say, we will happily "talk till the cows come home" on a subject we are passionate about.
